The Council Chamber

The picture shows the ceiling of the city council's meeting hall, which resembles an upturned viking ship. Vikings would turn their ships upside down in harsh winter and hold meetings under them (where it was warmer). The architect of City hall felt it was important, as a reminder to those who govern, that Viking history be woven into the structure of the building .
